9 Days Mardi Himal Trek Overview
The Mardi Himal Trek is a peaceful and scenic journey in the heart of the Annapurna region. Located just east of the famous Annapurna Base Camp trail, this lesser-known route offers stunning mountain views, diverse landscapes, and a genuine taste of Nepali culture — all without the crowds.
This 9-day trek is perfect for travelers looking for a short but rewarding Himalayan adventure. The trail leads through lush rhododendron forests, terraced fields, traditional Gurung and Magar villages, and onto high ridges with 360° views of the Annapurna range. You’ll get breathtaking close-up sights of Mt. Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli throughout the trek.
One of the main highlights is reaching the Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4,500 meters, directly beneath the towering face of Machhapuchhre. On the way up, you’ll also reach Upper View Point (4,250m) — one of the best sunrise spots in Nepal.
Unlike other treks that get crowded in peak seasons, Mardi Himal remains quiet, clean, and serene. This makes it ideal for nature lovers, photographers, and those seeking a peaceful trekking experience.
The route is graded as moderate, meaning no previous trekking experience is necessary, but a basic level of fitness is helpful. Walking hours are manageable (4–6 hours/day), and the altitude gain is gradual, allowing your body to acclimatize naturally.
This trek also lets you experience local culture up close. You’ll stay in cozy tea houses run by local families, eat home-cooked meals, and learn about the mountain way of life. These small cultural interactions make the trek even more memorable.
The best seasons are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the weather is stable, skies are clear, and views are perfect. In spring, forests are alive with blooming rhododendrons. Winter is also possible, but you’ll need to be prepared for colder conditions.
For those short on time but big on adventure, Mardi Himal is one of the best trekking options in Nepal. It gives you the beauty of the high Himalayas, the charm of Nepali hospitality, and the joy of peaceful trails — all in under 10 days.

By Siobhan Murphy(Ireland)June 8, 2026 Mardi Himal Is the Trek Nepal Does Not Advertise EnoughI discovered the Mardi Himal trek by accident when I was looking at maps of the Pokhara area and I am so glad I did. Next Trip Nepal confirmed it was a great choice and arranged everything quickly. Our guide Tsering was calm, experienced, and had excellent knowledge of the route. The trail climbs through quiet forest for the first two days and then opens up onto a dramatic ridge with the full Annapurna range visible ahead of you. The views from High Camp of Machhapuchhre and Annapurna South are as good as anything I have seen on any trek in Nepal. Because the route is less well known the teahouses are small and personal and the owners are very welcoming. We felt like guests rather than customers. The Mardi Himal viewpoint at the top of the route had views in every direction that were breathtaking on a clear morning. Porter Passang was excellent and reliable throughout the whole trek. Next Trip Nepal organised everything smoothly and I have already recommended this route to several friends who are planning Nepal trips. Do not overlook this trek.Date of Experience: October 05, 2024

By Felix Schneider(Germany)June 8, 2026 Best Trek I Found That Nobody Told Me AboutI spent two weeks in Nepal and did two treks. The first was the standard Poon Hill route and the second was the Mardi Himal trek with Next Trip Nepal. Mardi Himal was the better of the two by a significant margin. The views are more dramatic, the trail is quieter, and the sense of being in a wilder more remote mountain environment is much stronger. Our guide Pasang was very experienced and had an excellent approach to altitude management. He made sure we acclimatised at each camp before moving higher and as a result nobody in our group had any serious altitude problems even above 4000 meters. The upper ridge section of the trek is extraordinary. You are walking along a knife edge of land with huge mountains filling the view in every direction. At the viewpoint looking toward Mardi Himal Base Camp the scale of the mountains around you is hard to believe. Porter Dawa was brilliant and hardworking throughout the whole trek. Next Trip Nepal is a professional and caring company and I would recommend this specific route to anyone visiting Nepal who wants something special.Date of Experience: June 27, 2025

By Amy Caldwell(United States)June 8, 2026 A Trek Full of Small Perfect MomentsThe Mardi Himal trek with Next Trip Nepal was full of small moments that added up to a really wonderful experience. The smell of the forest in the early morning. The first glimpse of Machhapuchhre through a gap in the trees on day two. The sound of the wind on the ridge above High Camp. Hot soup in a warm teahouse after a long cold walk. Our guide Kanchha was great at pointing these things out and slowing down to appreciate them rather than just getting to the next waypoint. He had a very natural and unhurried approach to guiding that made the whole trek feel relaxed and enjoyable even on the harder days. The mountain views from the upper ridge were of course the big highlight and they were genuinely spectacular. Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, and Mardi Himal all visible at once from the ridge is a view that I have thought about many times since coming home. Porter Jangbu was fantastic and reliable throughout. Next Trip Nepal made everything easy and I would recommend both the company and this route very highly.Date of Experience: March 18, 2025

By Lorenzo Gentile(Italy)June 8, 2026 Do Not Sleep on This Trek It Is OutstandingThe Mardi Himal trek does not get nearly as much attention as Poon Hill or the Annapurna Circuit but it absolutely should. The mountain views are comparable to the best in the region and the trail is much quieter than the main routes. Our guide from Next Trip Nepal was Temba and he was brilliant. He knew the trail completely and had great instincts for pacing and timing. He chose our rest spots carefully so we always had a view to look at while we caught our breath. The rhododendron forest in the lower section was beautiful and the ridge above High Camp was dramatic and wild. At the viewpoint near Mardi Himal Base Camp the mountains felt very close and very real. Machhapuchhre in particular is extraordinary from this angle, steep and pointed and completely commanding. Porter Rinji was excellent throughout and always had everything organised at each teahouse before we arrived. Next Trip Nepal ran the whole thing smoothly and professionally. If you are planning any trek in the Pokhara region please consider the Mardi Himal route. You will not regret it.Date of Experience: November 25, 2024

By Hilde Eriksen(Norway)June 8, 2026 Came Back from Mardi Himal a Different PersonI do not usually write travel reviews but the Mardi Himal trek with Next Trip Nepal was good enough that I wanted to share it. I went alone on this trek after a difficult few months at work and it gave me exactly the reset I needed. The quiet of the trail, the beauty of the forest, and the drama of the mountains all combined to create something that felt genuinely healing. Our guide Ang Tshering was a calm and reassuring presence throughout. He never pushed and never rushed and created a space for the trek to feel like a personal journey rather than a tourist activity. On the morning we sat at the High Camp viewpoint watching the clouds clear from Machhapuchhre at sunrise I felt completely at peace. It is a view that puts everything in perspective. Porter Norbu was cheerful and dependable every single day. The teahouses were simple and warm and the food was always good. Next Trip Nepal looked after the logistics perfectly so I could focus entirely on the experience. I came home feeling genuinely changed by what I had seen and felt on that mountain.Date of Experience: August 09, 2024

By James Gallagher(Canada)June 8, 2026 The Forest Camps Are As Beautiful As the Mountain ViewsMost reviews of the Mardi Himal trek focus on the mountain views from High Camp and they are absolutely worth talking about. But I want to mention how beautiful the lower section of the route is too. Walking through the forest camps below Mardi Himal the trail passes through ancient rhododendron and oak forest that feels completely wild and untouched. The light through the trees in the morning is magical and the birdsong is constant. Our guide Purna from Next Trip Nepal knew the names of the birds and plants we passed and pointed out things I would never have noticed on my own. He made the whole route feel alive in a way that went beyond just the mountain views. The teahouse at Low Camp had a beautiful terrace with views starting to open up and by High Camp the full mountain panorama was revealed. Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Mardi Himal all visible at once. Porter Mingma was a wonderful presence throughout the whole trek. Next Trip Nepal is a company that clearly cares about giving their clients a genuine experience.Date of Experience: April 14, 2025

By Mia Kowalczyk(Poland)June 8, 2026 Short but Absolutely Spectacular Himalayan TrekI chose the Mardi Himal trek because I had limited time and wanted maximum mountain impact in minimum days. Next Trip Nepal delivered exactly that. In five days you go from the green hills above Pokhara all the way up to a dramatic ridge at over 4000 meters with front row views of some of the most beautiful mountains in Nepal. Our guide Sange was excellent. He was calm and knowledgeable and kept us well paced throughout. He also had a very good eye for weather and positioned us at the High Camp viewpoint at exactly the right time each day to get the best light on the mountains. Machhapuchhre is the star of this route. From the Mardi Himal ridge it looks impossibly steep and beautiful and the view of it at sunrise from High Camp is something I will always remember. Porter Chhewang was cheerful and strong throughout the whole trek. The teahouses were welcoming and the dal bhat was delicious at every stop. Next Trip Nepal is a professional and friendly company and this route is a brilliant choice for anyone with limited time who wants real Himalayan views.Date of Experience: September 30, 2024

By Bruno Leclerc(France)June 8, 2026 Three Friends One Trek and Zero ComplaintsI organised this Mardi Himal trek for three of us and we all came away completely satisfied. Next Trip Nepal were great to deal with in the planning stage and matched us with a guide named Gyalzen who was perfect for our group. He was energetic and funny and had a great way of keeping three people with slightly different speeds moving together without anyone feeling held back or rushed. The forest on the lower section of the route was beautiful and we spent a lot of time stopping to take photos of the light through the trees. Higher up the ridge the mountain views were constant and spectacular. The moment we cleared the treeline and saw the full Annapurna range spread out in front of us for the first time all three of us stopped walking and just stared. Machhapuchhre from the Mardi Himal ridge is one of the most impressive mountain views I have ever seen in any country. Porter Dorje was great throughout. Next Trip Nepal delivered a smooth and well organised experience. We would all come back and use them again.Date of Experience: July 22, 2024

By Rachel Thornton(United States)June 8, 2026 Next Trip Nepal Made a Tough Trek Feel Like a JoyI had read that the Mardi Himal trek is quite steep and physically demanding and I was a little nervous going in. But Next Trip Nepal paired us with a guide called Lobsang who was so encouraging and well paced that the difficult sections never felt overwhelming. He had a way of breaking the steep parts into small manageable goals and always knew the right moment to stop and rest with a view that made the effort feel worthwhile. By the time we reached the High Camp viewpoint above 4000 meters and saw Machhapuchhre directly in front of us I felt genuinely proud of what I had done. The descent the next day through the forest was also lovely and the knee pain I expected never really came because Lobsang kept us moving slowly and carefully. Porter Tenzin was excellent and reliable throughout. The teahouses were simple but warm and the food was always satisfying. Next Trip Nepal communicated well before the trip and Kiran answered all my questions quickly. This is a trek that looks scary on paper but with the right guide it is completely manageable and absolutely beautiful.Date of Experience: February 04, 2025

By Erik Sundqvist(Sweden)June 8, 2026 Quiet Beautiful and Completely Worth Every Steep StepI was warned the trail on the Mardi Himal trek is steep in places and the warning was accurate. But I was not warned how beautiful it would be and that is the part I want to tell people about. The forest sections in the lower half of the route are stunning. Ancient rhododendron trees line the trail and the forest floor is covered in moss and ferns and in the spring the whole thing is alive with red and pink flowers. Above the treeline the ridge walk is dramatic and the mountain views from there are some of the best in the Annapurna region. Our guide Ang from Next Trip Nepal was brilliant throughout. He knew the trail well and made sure we moved at a pace that kept everyone comfortable and safe. The teahouse at High Camp had an open terrace with a direct view of Machhapuchhre that made every meal feel special. Porter Sanje carried everything without complaint and was always cheerful. Next Trip Nepal is a reliable and caring company and this trek is a genuinely beautiful experience. I came home feeling refreshed and very glad I chose this route.Date of Experience: May 06, 2025
